Middle School Teachers

Teaching middle school students is challenging and yet gives immense satisfaction from the job.  Middle school teachers typically teach students in grades six through eight, although there might be some overlap with elementary school teachers. The education they provide helps shape the future of their students and prepares them to develop into responsible adults.

Role of Middle School Teachers

  • Plans lessons and teach students
  • Assess students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses
  • Grade students’ assignments to monitor their progress
  • Communicate with parents about their child’s progress
  • Work with individual students to challenge them and overcome their weaknesses
  • Prepare students for standardized tests required by the state
  • Develop and enforce classroom rules
  • Supervise students outside of the classroom

Skills of Middle School Teachers

Communication skills: Teachers should be able to communicate well with teacher assistants and special education teachers, parents and administrators.
Creativity: Middle School Teachers must plan lessons that engage young students, adapting the lessons to every student’s learning style.
Instructional skills: Middle School Teachers must be able to explain difficult concepts in terms that young students can understand and tailored for each students’ need.
Patience is the most important trait a teacher should have so as to deal with students of different abilities and backgrounds.
