Education System in Bahamas
Bahamas, officially known as the Commonwealth of Bahamas, is located near Cuba. It is one of the richest countries in the Americas, after the United States and Canada. Bahamas experiences subtropical to tropical climate.
The Education System in Bahamas is majorly based on the British System, and it is compulsory for every child between the age group of 5 to 18. Students from 11 to 17 years of age attend Secondary Education, which is then followed by The Bahamas Certificate of General Education.
Primary Education starts at age 5 and lasts for 6 years. Secondary education is a total of 6 years duration and is divided into two equal parts i.e. Junior High (3 years) and Senior High (3 years). Towards the end of Junior High Bahamas Junior Certificate Examination is administered. A pass certificate in this examination is compulsory for admission to Senior High. At the end of Senior Grade course i.e. Class 12 the Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education Examination is administered. There are many colleges and other Post-Secondary Education Institutes in the Bahamas. These institutes offer various diploma, degree and certificate programmes.
Furthermore, many Educational opportunities are offered to the students at higher levels, which is mainly concentrated in the Caribbean network.
