THE World University Rankings 2020: India University Table

The Time Higher Education (THE) has published THE World University Rankings 2020. This year more Indian Universities has found place in the THE World University Ranking Table. However none of the Indian Universities find space within 300 marks. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore slipped from 251-300 position for year 2019 to 301 – 350 position for year 2020. The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi is ranked at 601-800 position. India is the fifth largest nation in the THE World University Rankings 2020 with representation of 56 Universities. According to THE, the Indian Institutions fair better in ranking matrix like teaching and industry income but perform not much better in International Outlook.

In the words of Ellie Bothwell, THE rankings editor:

“India has a huge amount of potential in global higher education, given its rapidly growing youth population and economy and use of English-language instruction. However, it is disappointing to see the country fall out of the top 300 of the rankings this year, with only a small number of institutions registering progress.
"The Indian government has strong ambitions to boost the global standing of its top universities and attract foreign students, academics and research collaboration. It now needs to back up these aspirations with high levels of investment – or risk declining further amid increasing global competition, especially from other parts of Asia.”
