Staying in Estonia is quite affordable for international students and the cost of living is much lower than any other countries in Europe. However, it also depends upon the student’s lifestyle, the type of accommodation he has chosen, spending patterns, etc. The living conditions in Estonia are quite similar to that of the Western Europe.

Tuition Fees in Estonia

The tuition fees in Estonia can vary depending upon the Universities and the study program. It generally vary from 1660 EUR to 7500 EUR per year for Bachelor and Master programmes, but that doesn’t include Medicine programme which is 11 000 EUR per year. Some of the expensive courses in Estonia include social sciences, business administration, law and medicine. Tuition fees depends on many factors. Generally public institutions charge less tuition cost that private institutions.

Accommodation in Estonia

Student dormitories are available for accommodation in Estonia and the price starts from around €100 for a month. There are single sharing, double sharing and triple sharing rooms in some of the university student dormitories. If the student chose to live independently, then the cost largely depends upon the size of the flat and its location. The price for this type of accommodation would start from an average of €100 for a residence hall double room and €180–€450 or even more if he/she chooses to stay in a private accommodation or a flat.

Food Expenses in Estonia

Food in Estonia is considered cheap and students have to spend €200 to 250 per month on food. Here again depending on their needs and choices, each student’s food expenses are determined individually. Most of the universities in Estonia have their own cafeterias, which offer nice meal at a reasonable price. The weekends can be expensive if the students visit cafes and pubs regularly, as they are quite costly.

Transportation in Estonia

All students can avail public transport in Tallinn for free (this is for international students in Tallinn and other local residents of only Tallinn).

Tartu local public transport: with a monthly ticket its €8.63 (one should also have the student card with them). It is to be noted that most of the universities in Estonia have everything that is required for a student and it includes gym, pharmacy, shops, cafes, supermarkets, etc. and are all located within walking distance, hence students do not have to spend much on travelling.
  • Taxi: The average fee starts from €1.9, and then €0.6 per km.
  • Tallinn to Tartu Bus fare : €8.10 to €10.50

Entertainment and Free Time in Estonia

All international students in Estonia have a lot of option to spend their free time and weekends by visiting theatres, concerts, nightclubs, etc.
  • Theatre: €12 to €18
  • Concerts: € 8 to €30
Nightclubs: The entry fees for nightclubs may vary between different nightclubs; there are also ladies discounts or student’s discount that has a student card. It is generally between €5 to €15.
Movies: The tickets for movies may vary and depends upon the cinema or the show time. However, it is somewhere between €4.5 to €5.7.

Sports in Estonia

For those sports lovers, Estonia has a lot of option and offers sport training in various clubs, sports complex. There are also University sports clubs where various sports and group trainings are held.
  • The fees for Group training depends upon the university, however it is €60 to €100 per semester and for a month its €30 to €40
  • For fitness clubs and gyms the fees per month is €30 to €35
  • For private sports clubs there are various training packages and one has to pay around €30 to €70 per month.
