Estonia as a Study Destination
The international gateway of Estonia is Tallinn. There are direct flights daily to and from all major Baltic cities (including Vilnius and Riga) and Scandinavian (including Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm). Other than this, there are also daily flights from all major European countries such as Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris and London.
All international students or EU citizens in Estonia who wish to study or work in Estonia needs to have a temporary residence permit. It is to be noted that Estonia never issues a study visa and hence all NON-EU students must only apply for a temporary residence permit or (TRP) for studying in Estonia.
Estonia has a good number of accommodation facilities for all its students. Student dormitories are available for accommodation in Estonia and the price starts from around €100 for a month. The price for this type of accommodation would start from an average of €100 for a residence hall double room and €180–€450 or even more if he/she chooses to stay in a private accommodation or a flat.
The cost of living in Estonia is cheaper than that of Western Europe, but it used to be the bargain basement, which now it is not. However, food in Estonia is considered cheap and students have to spend €200 to 250 per month on food. All students can avail public transport in Tallinn for free (this is for international students in Tallinn and other local residents of only Tallinn). To spend their free time and weekends, they have many options to visit theatres, concerts, nightclubs, etc. Here again depending on their needs and choices, each student’s cost of living are determined individually. The Euro is used as an Estonian currency.
The transport system in Estonia is well-developed and students are given with the facilities of both public and private transport. All international students can also avail free public transport in Tallinn.
