Education System in Bermuda
Bermuda is also referred to as the Bermudas or Somers Isles is a British Overseas Territory. It is situated in the North Atlantic Ocean and placed in the hurricane belt, which is prone to extreme climate. Bermuda experiences a humid subtropical climate.
According to the Bermuda Education act 1996, only three types of schools can operate in the Bermuda Education System, which are,
- Aided School
- Maintained School
- Private School
Compulsory education is for children between the ages of 5 and 16. Education is provided free of charge for students up to 19 years. Pre Primary schooling is not compulsory. Children enter primary school at the age of 5. And after completion of standard 6 they move to Middle School for another 3 years, i.e. Standard 7 to 9. Senior School Education in Bermuda comprises Class 10 to 13. Upon completion of high school in the Bermuda Public School system, students graduate with the Bermuda School Certificate (BSC).
After completion of Senior School students can study in Bermuda College for Associate degree programme and other certificates and diplomas etc. There are limited options in Bermuda for higher studies. For Bachelors, Master etc often students go abroad to destinations like US, UK, Canada etc.
