Education in Antigua and Barbuda
Education in Antigua and Barbuda is compulsory and free for children between the ages of 5 and 16 years. Generally, school year begins in September and ends in June. Education proceeds as follows
- Primary School: Grades 1–7
- Low Secondary: Grade 8–10
- Secondary: Grade 11-12 [CSEC (Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate) Examinations]
- Secondary: Grade 11–13 [CXC Caribbean Advanced Placement Examination (CAPE)]
- Tertiary: University (Undergraduate/Masters/Research)
The Caribbean Examinations Council practice following grading mechanism
- A (Outstanding): Candidate shows a comprehensive grasp of the key concepts, knowledge, skills and competencies required by the syllabus.
- B (Good): Candidate shows a good grasp of the key concepts, knowledge, skills and competencies required by the syllabus.
- С (Fairly Good): Candidate shows a fairly good grasp of the key concepts, knowledge, skills and abilities required by the syllabus.
- D (Moderate): Candidate shows a moderate grasp of the key concepts, knowledge, skills and competencies required by the syllabus.
- E (Weak): Candidate shows a limited grasp of the key concepts, knowledge, skills and competencies required by the syllabus.
- F (Poor): Candidate shows a very limited grasp of the key concepts, knowledge, skills and competencies required by the syllabus.
